G: It is a common misconception that the time to clean something grows linearly over time if you neglect it. In reality, however, the relationship is logarithmic. After all, you don’t have to clean every piece of dirt individually.
Panel 2:
G: This is why you spend more effort cleaning if you clean more often. So the relationship between cleaning effort and frequency is exponential.
Panel 3:
G: And by minimizing this exponential function we find the optimal frequency for cleaning.
H: Fascinating.
